NASHVILLE, TN
Internationally acclaimed vocalist Brenna Whitaker releases her long-awaited new album Enraptured today on Green Hill Music, a sweeping and cinematic collection produced by award-winning pianist Gordon Mote.
Known for her multifaceted career in jazz, blues, and for her showy interpretations using dancers, she is known in Los Angeles as a curator with a global reach. Whitaker steps into new creative territory on Enraptured with a project defined by spontaneity, trust, and the emotional power of her stunning voice.
The album was sparked by a meeting with Green Hill’s Blake Davis, in which they discussed her recording a set of beloved covers. For Whitaker, who was used to leading her own band of jazz musicians in Los Angeles, it was a new experience to hand over the reins. She let Davis and Mote assemble the players, and in just two days they recorded eight songs without arrangements or elaborate planning.
“These are songs that are so epic, and interpreting them in such a spontaneous way was thrilling,” she says. “I consider myself a vocal artist, which feels like a lost art form. But the magic was Gordon. He is blind, so everything he plays comes directly from the source. I absorbed what he was doing and put my own spin on it. We were like a match made in heaven, finding the heart of these songs.”
That chemistry runs through the entire album, which finds Whitaker reimagining iconic material with a balance of Hollywood elegance and raw intimacy.
“In my forties, I’m not cool anymore. But in a way, that makes you cool because you don’t care as much,” she laughs.
That sense of ease infuses Enraptured with an unforced grandeur. The collection includes her take on “Pure Imagination,” a motherhood-meets-dreamscape that captured audiences with its music video featuring her own baby. She delivers a vulnerable interpretation of Boz Scaggs’ “We’re All Alone,” brings Bond-worthy glamour to “Nobody Does It Better,” and finds both spiritual depth and maternal resonance in “Mary Did You Know,” the album’s holiday centerpiece. Other highlights include “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,” and “Overjoyed,” the latter of which sparked a viral TikTok moment, drawing nearly 300,000 views in just a few days.
“Brenna is a vocalist who can step behind a microphone and elevate every song she touches,” says Blake Davis, General Manager of Green Hill Music. “The very first time I heard her live, I knew I wanted to work with her. With Gordon Mote guiding the sessions, what emerged was something timeless — lush, intimate, and unforgettable. Brenna is an artist that many may not know, but they absolutely need to! We couldn’t be more proud to release Enraptured and share Brenna’s gift with the world.”
For Whitaker, Enraptured is more than an album of reimagined classics — it is a meditation on where she is in life and career, balancing her roles as an artist, a mother, and a woman embracing the next chapter. “This project is about capturing wonder, intimacy, and timelessness,” she reflects. “To enrapture yourself in something beautiful, to surrender to the escape these songs can give you. That’s what I hope listeners feel when they hear it.”
