Kilsheimer’s experience includes the Pentagon following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the FIU pedestrian bridge collapse, Miami Dade College garage collapse, and a partial collapse at the Charles de Gaulle Airport.
SURFSIDE, Fla. (June 27, 2021) – The Town of Surfside has engaged the acclaimed structural engineering firm, KCE Structural Engineers, PC, to consult with the town on the Champlain Tower South partial building collapse. The firm is led by Allyn Kilsheimer, P.E., one of the world’s leading experts in the field with more than 50 years of industry experience.
His experience includes assistance with major disaster sites, including the Pentagon following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the FIU-pedestrian bridge collapse, Miami Dade College garage collapse, and a partial collapse at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, among others. During his decorated career, Kilsheimer has been in direct charge of over $49 billion dollars of construction and has responded to large-scale disasters, both natural and man-made, that require immediate emergency structural shoring, stabilization, selective demolition and reconstruction.
Additionally, Kilsheimer has consulted on a number of federal building projects throughout the country.
On June 26, the Town of Surfside conducted a courtesy walk-through led by Kilsheimer of limited, observable and exposed areas of the underground garages at the Champlain East and North towers and saw no visible evidence of any major structural concern. The walk-through included slab-on-grade, columns and the underside of the first-elevated floor in the below-ground garages. The condominium presidents, some of their board members and maintenance engineers were present during the walk-throughs. The Champlain North tower stated they will be hiring their own structural engineering firm to investigate further.
